MAC Fall Colour: Mineralize Skinfinishes

MAC released a new collection yesterday called Fall Colour, featuring artist Cindy Sherman in three distinct looks on the promotional displays. Fall Colour is a very large collection with the release of 48 products, and is the third collection to launch in September (along with Posh Paradise and Styledriven). There are two shades of Mineralize Skinfinish released with this launch, both of which are re-promotes and limited edition: Porcelain Pink and Lightscapade. Each Mineralize Skinfinish comes in regular black packaging, contains 10 grams, and retails for $33.50.

Porcelain Pink

Porcelain Pink (swatched)

Porcelain Pink is a pink-coral with gold veining. It is a re-promoted shade from 2004's High Tea collection and 2009's Colour Craft collection, and is limited edition with Fall Colour. On the skin, it has more of a peachy-gold shimmer and sheen. It does have a grainier look on the skin because of the more obvious shimmer (similar to Soft and Gentle, which is permanent), and as a result, it tends to reflect more. Those with larger pores may want to stay away from putting this one on the cheeks, because it tends to emphasize them. It does look beautiful on the skin on its own as a nice glow or on top of a blush to make it look more diffused (you can also add it on top of a matte blush to make it more subdued and shimmery). Those with medium-dark to deep dark skintones will likely use this more as a highlighter.

Lightscapade

Lightscapade (swatched)

Lightscapade is a pale white-beige with tiny veins of blue-lavender, pink, yellow, and orange running throughout. It is a re-promoted shade from 2006's Danse collection, and is limited edition with Fall Colour. This is easily the most anticipated item from this collection, and there are often complaints for Mineralize Skinfinish fans to make this shade permanent. On the skin, it looks like an illuminated beige with champagne shimmer. The texture of Lightscapade is smoother and silkier than many other Mineralize Skinfinishes (including Porcelain Pink), so it doesn't emphasize pores and imperfections. This isn't really a shade that I would wear alone as it's rather colourless, though you can dust it lightly all over the face for a subtle candlelit glow. It will lighten any blush you put it on top of, and it works most excellently as a highlighter (more so than Porcelain Pink or even Soft and Gentle). It works best on fair to medium skintones; those with medium-dark to deep dark skintones may find this ashy.

For those who love Mineralize Skinfinishes, make sure to check these out since MAC only seems to release MSFs in limited edition collections. Currently, the only two permanent Mineralize Skinfinishes are Soft and Gentle and Gold Deposit, which is really a shame because they're not for everyone and the texture on those are quite grainy/powdery (and tend to emphasize pores and imperfections). MAC counters often understock MSFs from their limited edition collections, so if either shade is one you've had your eye on, definitely pick it up while you can.
