MAC Styledriven: Pro Longwear Lip Pencil

MAC has released a new collection today called Styledriven, featuring 47 products, six of which are permanent and being re-promoted, and 41 of which are new and will be made permanent (!). This is a huge launch for MAC, and definitely the biggest permanent launch I've ever seen. This collection sees the expansion of their Pro Longwear line-up, featuring new shades of the Lipcreme, a new lip pencil formula, and a new Lipglass formula. This review will include seven of the ten new Pro Longwear Lip Pencils. Each pencil contains 1.2 grams and retails for $21.50.

Etcetera, Nice 'N' Spicy, Staunchly Stylish, What A Blast!, More To Love, Kiss Me Quick, and In Anticipation

Etcetera is a brown-based beige-nude. It is darker and more brown than Subculture.

Nice 'N' Spicy is a medium brown with peach undertones. It is more peach than Stripdown.

Staunchly Stylish is a soft pink brown. It is similar to Spice.

What A Blast! is a bright orange. There are no lip pencils in the permanent line-up that are similar, though the colour is similar to Morange lipstick.

More To Love is a bright blue-based fuchsia pink. There are no lip pencils in the permanent line-up that are similar, though the colour is slightly deeper than Girl About Town lipstick.

Kiss Me Quick is a bright blue-based red. It is very similar to Cherry.

In Anticipation is a brightened yellow-based pink. There are no lip pencils in the permanent line-up that are similar, though the colour is similar to Chatterbox lipstick.

Overall, these shades really fill in the gap of what was missing in MAC's previous lip pencil range. Previously, there were no lip pencils to really go with coral or orange lipsticks/glosses, and What A Blast! really fills that need. Likewise, people now have More To Love to go with fuchsia and hot pink lipsticks/glosses rather than Magenta, which leans very purple. And In Anticipation really fills that need for a brightened pink liner, since a lot of the other pink liners from MAC lean way too brown. The Pro Longwear Lip Pencil is kind of in-between MAC's Lip Pencil and Cremestick Liner: soft like the Cremestick Liner, but in a non-mechanical form like the Lip Pencil. They go on really smooth, with good glide and excellent colour pay-off. They do end up feeling a little drier on the lips since they are long-wearing, so I do recommend using them more as a layering tool rather than on its own. They wear for up to eight hours, and are smudge-proof and non-feathering. These lip pencils are definitely a wonderful and welcome addition to MAC's lip pencil family.
