MAC Fashion Sets (2013): Lipsticks

on
Thursday, April 4, 2013

Today, MAC released a new collection called Fashion Sets, which features four different colour sets that include a lipstick, lip gloss, lip pencil, eyeshadow, and nail lacquer. As such, this collection is comprised of 20 products — 17 of which are new and limited edition, and three of which are re-promotes. To avoid any confusion, each product is sold separately, despite being called "sets." Unlike last year's Fashion Sets, this year's version is comprised of four non-permanent shades. Fashion Sets features four lipsticks — three of which are new and limited edition and one of which is a re-promote and limited edition. Each lipstick comes in regular black packaging, contains 3 grams of product, and retails for $18. These shades are applicable for the Back To MAC recycling program at all locations.

Ablaze, Silly, Embrace Me, and Heroine

Ablaze is a medium-dark vibrant coral-red in a Matte finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. The texture is soft and creamy, and it goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It is similar though more matte than Lady at Play Mineralize Rich Lipstick, and lighter and more coral than Lady Danger.
Silly is a medium vibrant cool-toned bubblegum pink in a Matte finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. The texture is soft and creamy, and it goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It is darker and brighter than Divine Choice Mineralize Rich Lipstick, and warmer than Pink Nouveau.
Embrace Me is a medium-dark vibrant cool-toned fuchsia-magenta pink in a Matte finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. The texture is soft and creamy, and it goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It is slightly darker and less neon than Candy Yum-Yum, and much darker and brighter than Love Forever! Pro Longwear Lipcreme.
Heroine is a dark vibrant red-toned purple in a Matte finish. This is a re-promoted shade from last year's Reel Sexy collection, and is limited edition. The texture is soft and creamy, and it goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It is similar though more matte than Violetta (PRO), and darker and much more red-toned than Goes and Goes Pro Longwear Lipcreme.

The bright lip trend is still going strong for Spring! All four of these shades are creamy and go on smoothly with phenomenal colour pay-off; MAC has really improved on their Matte lipsticks in recent years. However, MAC has released quite a lot of shades similar to these, so check your stash to see if you have a dupe. However, if you're interested in any of these shades — especially Heroine, which was extremely coveted the first time it was released and is even more coveted now because it's being re-promoted — head to your nearest MAC counter or store immediately. Like, now. These will be guaranteed to sell out fast, and I know they're already sold out online.

    1. I hope you can, too! :) These are gorgeous, especially Heroine! And I never met a single person, regardless of skintone or undertone, that looked bad in that shade. :)

  2. Ablaze is awesome, but I have enough of these sort of shades now. Might go for Lady at Play later since that's permanent and there's no rush!

    1. LOL, I think you always find one colour and then become OBSESSED with it and then like, OD on it. :P Time to expand your horizons again! PURPLE, LIZ. PURPLE. IT'S TIME.

Though you still should get Lady at Play. Too pretty to pass up. :)

    2. It's so true! lol

I have been kind of looking at purples, but I'm pretty sure that they'd be a waste of money and wouldn't wear them. But then again, I've said this before, haven't I...?

    3. LOL, yepppp. Can I just point out that I used to say, "Ew, smoking is so gross. I would never smoke cigarettes." And I have now been smoking for a decade. JUST SAYIN'.

I feel like you should give purple a chance. I actually find them to be more flattering than orange/corals. Speaking of which, have you found a way to way Lady Danger in full force yet? ;)

  3. I'm reading your comment above about purples being more wearable than orange, and now I want to try 'em out. I have MAC Morange that I recently got in a swap, and EFF if I can't figure out how to wear it without looking horrendous! To make up for it I bought a gorgeous less opaque orange lippie from Dior on the weekend lol, but STILL. Anyway, I'm thinking you're right about oranges being tough to wear, so purples will be the next experiment!

    1. Morange can be a tricky colour to wear, but you can totally alter it and make it more wearable by adding lip liner or lip gloss to the mix! I like to put a pink gloss on top of it to make it more coral, for example. :)

Yes, try purple!!! It looks AMAZING on your skintone! Next time you're at MAC, try on Up the Amp. It's gorgeous!!!
