MAC Faerie Whispers: Beauty Powder in Pearl Sunshine

Monday, January 11, 2016

A few weeks ago, MAC launched their Boxing Day collection called Faerie Whispers, inspired by — you guessed it — fairies: "Let your innocence roam free. Transcend seasons with charmed hues inspired by the secret, wondrous world of fairies." There is a total of 24 products, of which 17 are new and limited edition, four are re-promotes, two are permanent, and one is new and will be added to the permanent range. Faerie Whispers sees the launch of one new and limited edition shade of Beauty Powder, which is described as "a silky-soft 'beauty' powder that's delicately tinted and luxuriously pearl. Goes on as an ultra-fine, shimmering 'veil' to the skin. Can be applied as a highlight, soft blush, or overall finish." Each powder is housed in a regular black mirrored compact, contains 10 grams of product, and retails for $26.

Pearl Sunshine

Pearl Sunshine

Pearl Sunshine is a light-medium warm tawny peach with iridescent pink pearlized shimmer-sheen. This is a re-promoted shade from 2007's MAC Loves Barbie collection, and is limited edition. It has a soft, finely-miled texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has medium pigmentation and semi-sheer to semi-opaque colour pay-off. It is lighter and more muted than Springsheen Powder Blush, slightly more muted and less frosted than Margin Blush, and lighter and less brown than Cheeky Bronze Mineralize Skinfinish.

A lot of people get confused as how to use Beauty Powders; are they highlighters, blushes, or all-over finishing powders? Well, all of the above, really. Depending on the colour of the powder and your skintone, you can use them as you see fit. What I love about Beauty Powders is that they have a really soft, smooth, finely-milled texture with a lovely soft pearlized sheen that make them super easy to use and provide a beautiful lit-from-within illumination. Pearl Sunshine works as a gorgeous soft blush on fair to medium skintones and as a diffused highlight shade on medium-dark to deep dark skintones, so it really does work for all complexions. Like the Iridescent Powder, this also doesn't emphasize skin texture like a more frosted or more metallic powder would, so it works for all ages, too. Long-time MAC fans may already have this one as it's a re-promote from the MAC Loves Barbie collection that came out nearly nine years ago (!), but if you don't have it or have been waiting (very patiently) for this to be re-promoted, it's definitely worth snatching up now — it's widely flattering and very different from what MAC offers permanently, and at $26 for 10 grams of product, it's practically a bargain.
