Sunday Video Love: Phantom Bride

No official music video yet, but Deftones released their eighth studio album, Gore, on Friday and it is truly mind-blowing. It has been four years since the release of their last album, and it was well worth the wait. Gore is moody, emotional, heady, visceral, and sonically atmospheric — a juxtaposition of savage aggression and ethereal fragility, of ominous sensuality and hypnotic violence, that proves that Deftones continues to transcend the boundaries and expectations of its genre. This song in particular, featuring Alice in Chains' Jerry Cantrell's guitar work, might be the prettiest song in the entire Deftones catalogue, and is one of my favourites from this album. A Deftones record hasn't been this exciting since 2000's White Pony, and as one reviewer said, "Gore is a triumphant reminder that a veteran act can continue to grow and still remain relevant."
