MAC Caitlyn Jenner: Eyeshadow in Glowing Gold, Malibu Bronze, and Worthy

Last Thursday, MAC launched their collaboration with Caitlyn Jenner, a collection that is meant to "continue her mission of sharing her transition with the world, championing All Ages, All Races and All Sexes." It includes a total of 15 products, of which 11 are new and limited edition and four are permanent and in special edition packaging. The Caitlyn Jenner collection sees the launch of three new and limited edition shades of eyeshadow. They are housed in a black soft-touch clear-lidded pots with metallic gold trim. Each eyeshadow contains 1.5 grams of product, and retails for $19. Due to the special edition nature of these eyeshadows, they are not redeemable as a free product in the Back to MAC recycling program.

Glowing Gold, Malibu Bronze, and Worthy

Glowing Gold, Malibu Bronze, and Worthy

Glowing Gold is a light-medium warm champagne gold in a Veluxe Pearl finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. It has a soft, finely-milled, almost buttery texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. It is darker than Ricepaper, darker and more yellow than Nylon, lighter and more muted than Goldmine.
Malibu Bronze is a medium-dark warm reddened bronze in a Veluxe Pearl finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. It has a soft, finely-milled, almost buttery texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. It is darker and more red than Antiqued, more brown than Amorous Alloy, and more red than Mulch.
Worthy is a dark warm burgundy-plum with subtle red micro-shimmer in a Velvet finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. It has a soft, silky, finely-milled texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. It is lighter and more brown than Sketch, cooler and more plum than Deep Damson, and lighter and more purple than Embark.

The Caitlyn Jenner collection as a whole has gotten a lot of backlash since it was launched, but I am not here to judge her nor to write my personal opinion about her as a person, so I want to make it clear that I am reviewing this as a makeup artist, enthusiast, and collector. That aside, I've gotta say, if you like your warm eyeshadows, both Glowing Gold and Malibu Bronze are stunning. They both have Veluxe Pearl finishes, and as such, have that ultra-smooth, buttery texture and phenomenal colour pay-off. (In fact, I find them to be softer and smoother than many of MAC's permanent Veluxe Pearl shadows, so it may be that MAC has re-formulated this finish.) Worthy is a gorgeous colour to execute a warm smoky eye with, and work really well with the other two shadows in this collection, but I do find it to be very similar to Sketch, so if you have one, you really don't need the other. That having been said, all three shades will work beautifully on all skintones from fair to dark — say what you will about Caitlyn Jenner, but almost every single shade in this collection is widely flattering, really taking into account MAC's credo of "All Ages, All Races, All Sexes." As it is, these are all priced exactly the same as MAC's permanent eyeshadows, so if you're debating between these and any of the dupes listed, you'll probably want to swatch in store first to see the subtle differences between all the shades to make your final decision.
