Today, MAC released their anniversary collection for Eyes on MAC, which is MAC's annual eyeshadow palette extension launch. This year's Eyes on MAC collection features a total of ten eye products: two 15-pan eyeshadow palettes, six nine-pan eyeshadow palettes, and two eye brushes. Of the ten products, there is one brand new and permanent 15-pan eyeshadow palette called In the Flesh, which is described as "a carefully edited palette of 15 iconic neutral shades, perfect for a classic nude look." It is housed in a regular black rectangular clear-lidded compact, with "In the Flesh" printed on the lid. Each In The Flesh palette contains a total of 19.5 grams of product, and retails for $85.

Beaded, Glam Gold, Copperfield, Sandstone, and Luxury Cachet

It has a soft, finely-milled texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. It is darker and more brown than Ricepaper, more golden than Grain, and lighter and more golden than Arena.

Naked Lights is a light cool taupe-grey in a Matte finish. This is a new and permanent shade. It has a soft, finely-milled texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. Cast Iron is a dark cool charcoal grey in a Matte finish. This is a re-promoted shade from the discontinued Navy Eyeshadow x 9 Palette. It has a soft, finely-milled texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. It is darker than Print, lighter than Typographic, and lighter and more matte than Dark Dare.
Black Factor is a dark cool blackened brown in a Matte finish. This is a re-promoted shade from the limited edition Smoky Metallic Eyeshadow x 9 Palette (Macy's exclusive). It has a soft, finely-milled texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. It is darker than Brun, lighter and more brown than Carbon, and more brown than Cast Iron.
Carbon is a deep-dark neutral black in a Matte finish. This is a permanent shade. It has a slightly drier texture, but goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. It is darker and more matte than Dark Dare, darker and less sparkly than Black Tied, and darker than Typographic.

Okay, so I gotta say, MAC has really upped their matte shadow game. MAC does amazing metallic and frost finish shadows, but a lot of their mattes can be very dry, stiff, chalky, or powdery. Every single matte shade in this palette, however, goes on smooth and beautifully pigmented, more like their Matte2 finish shadows (of which there are only a handful left in the permanent range, like Blanc Type, Brown Script, and Typographic) than their regular matte finish. Even Carbon, which is notoriously dry and stiff, got revamped and goes on smoother and more evenly. None of these were overly powdery with any significant fallout except for Indiscretion, which is honestly the only dud in this palette. It's actually a beautiful shade, but it does take some work to get it to sit smoothly on the lid without being too grainy or patchy (I recommend a tackier eye base like MAC's 24-Hour Extend Eye Base and a flat synthetic brush like MAC's 242 to get more opaque colour pay-off). My only other complaint is that I wish they had included a couple more transitional crease shades rather than three smoky black/almost black shades to create some more variety. That having been said, In the Flesh is as neutral as it comes — it's right in between the Warm Neutral and Cool Neutral palettes. What stands out in this palette as compared to the other two permanent Eyeshadow x 15 Palettes is that there are more mattes this time around (8 of the 15 shades), which are more useful in creating dimensional eye looks. The shades themselves aren't that unique or innovative — this is a neutral palette, after all — but it is incredibly useful and widely flattering, making this an ideal basic workhorse palette.
