MAC Reel Sexy: Lipsticks

MAC released a new collection yesterday called Reel Sexy. This collection is this month's "main launch," and features 23 products — 14 of which are new and limited edition, 6 of which are re-promoted and limited edition, one of which is re-promoted and will be added to the permanent line, and two of which are permanent. Reel Sexy sees the release of four shades of lipstick. Each lipstick comes in regular black packaging, contains 3 grams of product, and retails for $17.50. These shades are applicable for the Back To MAC recycling program.

Watch Me Simmer, Reel Sexy, Pink Popcorn, and Heroine

Watch Me Simmer is a medium bright coral that leans very slightly pink in an Amplified finish. This is a re-promoted shade from February's Shop MAC, Cook MAC collection, and is limited edition. It goes on smoothly and evenly, and has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It is very slightly more pink than Vegas Volt, and very slightly darker than Full Speed Sheen Supreme, but both are quite similar.

Reel Sexy is a light-medium bright peach-coral in an Amplified finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. It goes on smoothly and evenly, and has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It is similar to Gotta Dash! Sheen Supreme Lipstick, and is slightly lighter and more pink than Ravishing.

Pink Popcorn is a light cool-toned pink that leans slightly lavender in a Lustre finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. It goes on smoothly and evenly, and has medium pigmentation and semi-opaque colour pay-off. It is cooler and sheerer than Royal Azalea Sheen Supreme Lipstick.

Heroine is a medium-dark vibrant magenta-purple in a Matte finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. This is a different shade than the Heroine lipstick that was released with last year's Wonder Woman collection. It goes on smoothly and evenly, and has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It is like the matte version of Violetta (MAC PRO).

All four lipsticks are really gorgeous and work well with the theme of the collection (drama, cinema, red carpet, film, celebrity, etc.) as well the the current bright lip trend. I'm surprised MAC decided to re-promote Watch Me Simmer in a collection only two months after its initial debut, but it sold out so fast the first time around that it gives a second chance to those who wanted the shade but couldn't get it. It will undoubtedly sell out fast again, especially given that it is that time of year for brights and corals, so if you had your heart set on it, you better snatch it up fast. Reel Sexy will also be extremely popular; I know it's already sold out online and at many counters now. Ironically, it's those two shades that are the most easily dupeable within MAC's permanent lipstick range. Pink Popcorn will appeal to those who like their light pastel pinks, but if you picked up Budding Love from last month's Chenman Love and Water or you still have your Viva Glam Gaga, you can probably skip this. Heroine is my personal favourite from this collection and by the far the most unique shade of the four. You can dab it on for a sheerer stain of colour or go full force for a bold and trendy statement lip.

  1. Heroine IS really gorgeous!!! But I think Reel Sexy is my favourite of the bunch. It's so cheerful!

And Denise, I am blown away by the quality of your photos.

    1. Reel Sexy and Watch Me Simmer are tied for being the best-sellers, for sure. I'm pretty sure every MAC location is sold out by now! I'm lucky and managed to B2M for it. ;)

And thank you, Mary! :D I have found shooting in natural lighting makes pictures look a lot crisper with better colour as well!
