MAC Archie's Girls: Veronica's Blush Pearlmatte Face Powder

Tomorrow, MAC will be releasing its collaboration collection with Archie Comics, called Archie's Girls. As the name implies, this collection is inspired by Betty and Veronica and their "epic love triangle" with Archie. This collection "captures the legendary rivalry of sweet blonde Betty and vivacious brunette Veronica" with "two contrasting colour collections." This collection is comprised of 32 products — 24 of which are new and limited edition, two of which are re-promotes, and six of which are permanent — and five collectable accessories (which will only be available online and at MAC Stores). Archie's Girls sees the release of two new shades of Pearlmatte Face Powder, one for each Betty and Veronica (this is the review for Veronica's shade). Pearlmatte Face Powders combine "pearlized and satin shades" that can be used "for highlighting and blush effects or as an eyeshadow with a velvet smooth finish." Each Pearlmatte Powder comes in a special edition glossy white compact featuring a comic-style design with the faces of Betty, Archie, and Veronica. This design extends to the box packaging as well. Each lipstick contains 10 grams of product, and retails for $35.

Veronica's Blush

Veronica's Blush (swatches — heart shade, background shade, mixed)

Veronica's Blush is a pale cool-toned pink frosted base with medium-dark fuchsia pink satin hearts. When mixed together, it creates a light cool-toned pink with a subtle silver shimmer-sheen. This is a new and limited edition shade. The texture is soft, silky, and finely-milled, and it goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. It is slightly lighter and more frosted than Well Dressed, and much lighter and more frosted than Dame.

I pretty much fell in love with this product at first sight. Those damn embossed hearts did me in. It just so happens that the actual powder itself is also gorgeous, going on silky smooth and pigmented. As a blush, this will work best on fair to light skintones. On medium and darker skintones, I can't really see this working as anything else but a highlighter or as an illuminating finishing powder (phenomenal for adding illumination to a darker blush). This shade does lean cool, but it should flatter all undertones. I do, however, see Flatter Me as, well, more universally flattering, so if you're only going to pick one up, I would look at that one first. Either way, if you like this shade, snatch it up as soon as you see it — it will be one of the first products to sell out from this collection.

  1. Definitely too cool for my skintone, but I am digging the illuminating tones! And yea, those hearts are pretty damn cute :)

    1. I think Flatter Me (the peach one) would look better on your skintone! I don't think this is necessarily too cool 'cause a lot of cool shades look really good on darker skintones, but I think it might just be too light and end up looking ashy.

    1. Yeah, the design of these killed me. I was like, "I don't even care if I use this, I need it." :P
